THE OCCASION established in 1977, is located in its own historic building
at 30 W. Main Street, in Rockaway Borough, New Jersey. Originally constructed
as a Smithy Shop in 1834, by Francis Peer, the building has been utilized by
many different businesses over the last 160 years. An extensive renovation
was completed in 1992 just prior to the move of the OCCASION from Rockaway Townsquare
Mall.
The OCCASION'S new home is now located in historic Rockaway Borough and is only
a stones throw from the scenic Rockaway River and one of the many crossings of
the Morris Canal. The shoppe offers an extensive variety of unusual new
and old gifts and collectibles. They are suited to meet anyone's taste
and style and everyone's budget. Craft items and collectibles are featured
throughout the shoppe with owner Judie Klein's own favorite antiques from her
own collection all for sale at reasonable prices. The Cat's Meow Houses
collection includes over 50 custom pieces of Rockaway and other Morris County
Towns. Other new collectibles such as Disney Classics, Hummels, Byers Carolers,
Annalee Dolls, Shelia's, Boyds, Willow Tree, Bearington Bears and Christopher
Radko are just some of the many collectibles to be found. The greeting
card section includes the largest alternative card collection in the county.
When making a visit to the OCCASION leave plenty of time for browsing. People
have been known to stop in for a special greeting card and leave the shoppe hours
later. Judie's Gourmet Shoppe, Dipper And... just right next door was featured
by the "Sunday Record" as One of "Five spots to enjoy the ice
cream season". After visiting the main store do not miss the special
treats through the door, including fine chocolates, chocolate molded favors and
novelties, chocolate covered strawberries, nuts, other sweets, and ice cream
cones, cups, shakes, malts, sundaes, etc.
